I am taking part in weekly challenges with AXA PPP healthcare to make small changes one at a time to become healthier and happier! each week I have been sharing with you incase anyone else wanted to make the changes too!
This week it’s all about swapping unhealthy snacks for a healthier version!
Now as much as I hate to say it AXA PPP healthcare have me banged to rights over this one as I was a prolific snacker and my weight proved it!
Being a savory muncher I had been known to polish off a large bag of crisps without bating an eye lid, never mind the cheese straws and or cake just to top it off! I am easily coerced into thinking if it came in a bag that size it must mean I can eat the whole bag and kid myself its one portion .. yes I really am that greedy!
My turnabout came when I went on Diet Chef for a month last September, when I not only started looking at portion sizes, moderation and swapping snacks to make a healthier choices. I began to realise that losing the original 4.5 stone was great but longer term choices were going to be needed in order to keep that weight off for good. (until stopping smoking scuppered my weight loss, although I am now back on it again)
Popcorn had in the past been a choice of snack I would go for (salty not sweet) but again this is where my portion sizing habit had things out of control so I needed to see with my own eyes what normal was and so I even weigh most of my food these days!
On my weight loss journey I have felt most stressed with finding healthier snacks as I have to acknowledge that I am destined to be a snacker .. denial only last a few days and then I am raiding the cupboards or popping to the shop to fill my boots on stuff way too calorific for 3 grown men never mind the stumpy 5ft typing this!
So here is what I have discovered I love:
- Pumpkin & Sunflower Seeds – Who would have thought?!
- Rice cakes in savoury flavours!
- Homemade fruity ice lollies (like THESE )
- Jelly preferably with fruit
- Celery Sticks and dips
So are you an unhealthy snacker or are you partial to something a little healthier? If so please do share, inspiration is always a bonus!
