Its that time of the week again and for anyone not already aware – I am taking part in weekly challenges with AXA PPP healthcare to make small changes one week at a time to become healthier and happier! and this week is one of my personal faves so far!!
Start a Task Jar!
OK I am not being mean, however working full time from home, having a toddler at home almost fulltime and a teen here through the holidays and evenings my house is a nightmare of epic proportions!
When I started thinking of working from home I had no idea of the changes it would make with everyones lifestyles …. thankfully its mainly for the good, such as not having to spend precious time travelling to and from work and also that I can reschedule my work load according to childcare. However there is a dark side to working from home ……
The expectations I have on myself as well as the expectations of others.
My role while being a stay a home Mum had always been to take on the majority of the household tasks, tea, ironing, gardening, decorating and so on. When Ollie returned home he would muck in with laundry and pot washing and childcare, it was a reasonable balance as he was out the house working and so using some time in the day to cover jobs in the house seemed like a fair compromise.
Now however thing have slightly altered … with both of us now working and although I earn far less than Ollie we are both having to spend time to earn the money him outside the home and me at home.
The first few months were very difficult, with a changing rota Ollie’s days off are never the same each week and this only compounded on what was already a massive learning curve. Although there are some jobs that we still argue over … cutting the grass and ironing are the main contenders but the list really could be endless!
So this week I have decided that we are going to follow the challenge and have ago with a task jar … the reason … its fair! it really is as simple as that!
If Beth thinks she is missing out … there is a jar with her name on too! … if she thinks pulling her weight at 13 is not going to happen she will be shocked .. if everyone does a little bit of something round the house I am sure it will be a more pleasant place to be … or thats the plan!
How about you; how do you split up household chores? if you don’t already split them up .. which ones drive you crazy?
