I am taking part in weekly challenges with AXA PPP healthcare to make small changes one week at a time to become healthier and happier! and this week it’s about the benefits of enjoying and eating seasonal foods. So why should we be eating seasonal foods? There are lots of benefits of eating seasonal food and top of my list for picking seasonal fruits and vegetables is firstly due to price!
In season produce tends to be of a more reasonably priced, not to mention we don’t then eat the same foods all year round .. yes there are only so many Brussel Sprouts you can eat, even if you do love them!
Locally sourced produce is also good for the environment less nasty Co2 emissions from transporting and storing so it’s a win win so far!
However enjoying seasonal food can mean more than just cooking with it … on my ‘50 Things I Want To Do in 2014‘ post way back in January I decided that at number 18 – Fruit Picking was on the list and this is perfect! living where we are we are surrounded by Pick Your Own places from things like Asparagus and Strawberries so this is on our to do list in the School Summer Holidays ..
I am no stranger to pick your own fields however, I spent a few weeks after I completed my GCSE’s fruit picking with my friends. I really cant wait to share that with my Children.
For more information on why seasonal foods can be great by Nutritionist Sarah Schenker you can find some more information HERE
Do you have any ideas on what else we can all do with seasonal produce?
