As some of your already know I am taking part in weekly challenges with AXA PPP healthcare to make small changes one week at a time to become healthier and happier!
This weeks challenge is to take the stairs.
When I started these challenges right from the beginning I have dreaded in case this one came out.
Not just due to the fact that I am lazy (it pays to be honest) but also because I suffer with a condition called Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD) which is a condition that I developed in pregnancy which has continued for the last 4 years. Effectively the condition means that the ligaments that hold the front and back of my pelvis together are not very successful and therefore my pelvis can move and rotate in a way in which it’s not meant to and it causes extreme pain. The condition will forever be my nemesis!
So with this weeks challenge in mind I decided to seize the day this weekend while at out local shops … OK 4 flights down and back up in one go for a girl who would always take the stairs may have been pushing it … although lesson learnt ….. maybe next time I may start at 2 flights and build up!
Laziness aside, why should I be taking the stairs instead of the lift?
- It boosts blood flow round your body
- It can improve energy
- It Burns more calories
- It can be done at home and its free!
Although this is not my favorite challenge by any stretch of the imagination It has inspired me to make more of an effort to take the stairs. Maybe getting out the lift a few levels earlier and walking the last few flights will help me improve?!
So are you a stair climber or avoider?
