If you are new round here and have not come across my #52LittleThings posts before I am taking part in the #52LittleThings challenge with AXA PPP healthcare to make small changes in my lifestyle one week at a time to become a healthier and happier person.
This week it’s all about something that I have struggled very badly since starting to work from home and that has been establishing some work like balance.
I have notoriously been unable to switch off and have even been known to answer emails, tweets and calls that are work related while on holiday.
My work radar has always been on and my home life if I am honest has suffered. I have missed quality time with my family and there has been resentment setting in.
So this week with it being National Work Life Balance week its only right that I take the final step.
Since the first week in September I have been making changes to benefit us as a whole and now my business has started to pick up and work has increased Joshua (age 3.5) who was beginning to get frustrated at me having to work so much has now had his hours increased to 2.5 days per week (term time) and so it gives me 2.5 days to priorities monday and Tuesday as my working days, followed by a Wednesday morning to get some house chores done (that were previously dropped in at 1am) So now I can spend more dedicated time with him on the other days has been fantastic.
Changing things to be more organised round a time-table has enabled me for the first weekend in a VERY long time to go away for a weekend with my family and to enjoy every single second of it without any technical device at all .. from Saturday lunchtime time to late last night I had no internet, no phone, no TV and no work! ….
It has been amazing as I watched my family spend real quality time together and to bond in a way in which I have not seen before, or maybe it was me that was just bonding like that and I hadn’t noticed it before.
It has also massively helped that my Husband and I have been able to discuss the workload and changes have been made to make the home workload far more even than before, we are working as part of a team.
This week I am celebrating National Work Life Balance week and I am glad I made some changes, although I am still looking at what other changes can be made to my work life balance
How about you, do you need to make changes too? if not how do you balance things with home and work?
