A little while ago I had the pleasure of attending a lovely event with the BabyStyle team who showcased their newest pushchair offering. The BabyStyle Oyster 3.
The Oyster 3 has taken the Oyster 2 and given it a super tweak. They listened to the feedback from the Oyster 2 and made all those little amendments that that had the Oyster 3 billed as the ‘best pushchair they’ve ever designed’
So over the last few months I have been pavement pounding with the Oyster 3 and Jacob to see if it really can withstand the hard life that us parents give our kids pushchairs.
After attending the launch event I was given an Oyster 3 pushchair to take home in a box and I am pleased to say that it was super easy to put together, the wheels just slot on, the hood clips and slides on and its practically ready to roll.
The Oyster 3 is much taller than its predecessor the Oyster 2 which I loved and even with its height increase it’s only a few grams heavier! Also its worth noting that as part of this super upgrade the pushchair allows for forward and parent facing and more importantly it has a super compact fold in either direction!
The fabrics are much nicer in my opinion that the previous Oyster as they have a really luxurious feel and yet are easy to wipe clean of those everyday baby and toddler issues like juice, crisps and even suncream.
The Oyster 3 has fantastic suspension so tackled all the everyday surfaces with ease from pavements, gravel, grass and even muddy play parks with ease and made the ride a comfy one for Jacob.
There is the standard issue features I would expect on a top of the range pushchair and the Oyster 3 is no exception with its extendable hood, fixed/swivel wheels, large shopping basket and adjustable handle height but this beauty has several features that might seem like little things but they are fairly unique and need to be mentioned.
The first is the harness/hood height, this pushchair grows with your child and you can move the height of it hood up several notches and with it the harness and inbuilt headrest height increase too. Jacob is a fairly tall 2.5 year old and the head rest moved up with plenty of space for him.
The final genius feature is the footrest. This pushchair comes with a beautifully shaped footrest, which I have no doubt works will for little tots but with a toddler it normally means pushchairs like this become too small as they can’t fit their legs into the rest properly and end up with them dangling and their legs resting on the metal frame of the seat unit. Well Babystyle obviously thought about this too and have made it so the Oyster 3’s footrest can be popped out giving older children or those with longer legs a perfectly formed padded leg rest instead of the shelf! .. which is fantastic!
As you my dear readers know I like to balance my reviews with my own personal thoughts, good or bad and the only thing that I am not the biggest fan of is the swivel/fixed wheel switch. On many pushchairs they can be found on the front of the of the wheel unit itself. However, the Oyster 3’s is located on a switch on the front
But I have to be honest and I think although it’s OK during the summer months crouching downing activating the switch means it’s going to be wet and soggy and I think that there are much more parent friendly locations it could have been situated (on the main frame maybe or even using push buttons on the wheel units on the top) Overall however it certainly wouldn’t put me off purchasing it.
So cards on the table, Do I like the Oyster 3? Well, thats simple, I think its a fantastic product and with its option of using it with a baby carseat and carrycot it’s certainly a product that can truly grow with a child.
Also the price is a certain selling point, with other pushchairs of this quality retailing in the £800 + range I think this one at £499 is a great price. Also BabyStyle have thought hard about making a parents life easier and it will be releasing different packs that can be included with this pushchair offering things you might want to add in too like carrycot, carseat, isofix base but full prices for those will no doubt be released for those soon.
I believe the release date for the BabyStyle Oyster 3 will be November but you can pre order with retailers now.
