After the official season finished I was sad. I had to cut the league matches off before the end as I went in for surgery … I was gutted.
My Hockey journey has been a mixed one and looking back at it a fairly long one too. I enjoyed and played fanatically as a teen/young adult from league teams to county but found beer and boys and I left it all behind. My love was rekindled 2 years ago when I shifted some lard and braved my own insecurities about my body and everything bouncing in opposite directions as I ran ( I am not talking about boobs I barely have any) However I did it, I played matches, trained and even when I wanted to throw up at the side of the pitch I have kept going pushing myself a little more each time.
Although she dabbled a little with playing the season before it wasn’t until this season that she really took it all in and started to really flourish. I so cant wait to see her this coming season (she wont start again till September) Next season Bethany will be set to play in my ladies team now she is 13 … I’m not sure how that will pan out but in for a penny and in for a pound ..
My highlight for last year was finally getting my own kit, instead of using just a plain T-shirt, as sad as it sounds those purple and white numbers really were my confidence boosters, they allowed me to finally be part of the team in my head and it did wonders for my ego (yes I know I am shallow)
However this season I am going to slim down and finally get into a hockey skort instead of trousers and I am really excited as not only am I now able to get into one .. I am able to go hockey shopping to my heart’s content as I have found a shop dedicated to hockey items, The Hockey Factory shop is like #hockeyporn! … oh Ollie beware I fear you may need to take my card off me at some point … is it wrong I get Hockey stick envy??
So hopefully this month I will get back into what makes me happy, healthy and fit …
