Pretend play and copying ….
I am not talking about the pretend/copying that happens on the verge of toddlerhood, you know the one, you say shit or bugger when you drop your phone into the washing up bowl only to find your little cherub repeat the said word at least a dozen times an hour for the next week.
The stage I am so excited about is the full on pretend play and it seems that this week the full on pretend play copying mindset is now in full swing. Joshua is now refusing to call us anything other than ‘Mummy Pig’ ‘Daddy Pig’ and himself in the starring roll of ‘Peppa Pig’ and in fairness this has been super comical, making for some interesting conversations particularly this weekend …… Although funny in the house, being called ‘Mummy Pig’ in public really is not so funny as it can induce a confidence kicking!
However the icing on the cake has been the pretend play I witnessed Sunday morning between father and son.
After cleaning the bathroom I went into Joshua’s room to find my little man reading his Daddy a story while he was folded double in the toddler bed.
After the story was finished Joshua copied what his Daddy says to him every night
” be a good boy, night night, be back to check on you in ten minutes, love you”
so it seems my little man is a little sponge and he is indeed taking it all in and he is either saving it to either make us super proud or to pull it out the bag while in company to embarrass us ….
Which ever way my toddler is growing up!
