What does that really mean for me??
Until a few months back I had no school run, after Beth developed the tween issue of insisting parents were not meant to EVER walk to school with children her age. I missed it, In fact I missed it so much I decided to do the school run anyway… with the stress of the getting ready bit, it was nice to get out in the fresh air and blow the cobwebs away. It was also really great for keeping me on the weight loss journey that I was on.
I have to say that over the last year I have really struggled to get motivated and I have often used the car to do the nursery run and this in turn has given Beth the option of being dropped off on route too, so in reality it has encouraged all of us to be lazy.
This month Kia are encouraging more people to walk the school run with the Kia walking bus scheme that is on throughout October. I not only wanted to share with you that I am a lazy Mum and admit it .. but also that I am intending to make changes to get out and walk the nursery run more often.
In days gone by we soaked up the amazingly beautiful scenery that we have in this neck of the woods and also took time out to discover things around us.
However these days most mornings are fraught in this house, although I do have to say they are far more stressful now due to a teenager that will not, no matter how many times she is told to get her stuff ready the night before she never blooming does and with at least 4 layers of makeup (she thinks I am daft) getting out the door in itself is painful, almost to the point of horrific.
So when Tots100 and Kia sent me a heart rate monitor to see exactly how stressful my mornings are … I think mine says it all ..
- We had interesting conversations on what was going on around us; Cars, trees, conkers and dog poo (or that was at least interesting to the 3.5 year old anyway)
- I did not swear once at anyone pulling out in front of me in a car
- I felt like it became quality time, not a chore
- It meant I did not spend any money
- It was obviously better for the environment
- Leaving on time and without dodging lemmings crossing the road without looking meant far less stress
Thank you Tots100 and Kia for reminding me what I am missing on these crisp Autumn mornings! …. heres to many more mornings walking to school.
