A little while ago we were really lucky to get to review a junior food intolerance testing kit with Joshua. While carrying out that test Joshua was diagnosed as having an allergy to Turkey of all things.
It certainly answered a few questions. However for me it made me ask more about myself and my own symptoms.
Understandably I was really excited and nervous when the team at York Laboratories offered for me to be tested too.
You see for probably the last 15-20 years that I remember I have always had what I was told was a ‘sensitive tummy’ or I was even told I suffered with some IBS like symptoms.
What I was never told was why I got some symptoms.
So when my adult Food&Drink testing pack arrived I ripped it open already knowing how super easy the kit is.
The adult testing kit works the same way as the junior kit.
Inside you will find the consent form, a box with a tiny tube to store your sample, the sample collector, a pen, a self address envelope, a plaster, alcohol wipes and 2 lancets that you use on your finger to be able to get the blood droplets you need.
Once you have signed your form and written your name and date on the tiny tube you then have to wash your hands in warm water and dry thoroughly.
Then use the alcohol wipe to clean the area you are planning to take the sample from.
Next you need to read the inclosed instructions on how to use the lancet and follow them carefully to be able to get the right sample amount.
Once you have your sample pop on the enclosed plaster and then put it into the small tube and seal.
At this point you package everything back in the box it arrived in and then add the consent form to it and send it back in the envelope provided.
Honestly this process was far easier than I ever anticipated for both Joshua and I and after all these year of pain and discomfort I am rather kicking myself about not getting tested sooner.
Once York Laboratories receives your test they email you to let you know and from then on it’s a super speedy service as my test results came back via an email in a matter of days followed by the written results the day after.
You see I don’t have ‘IBS’ like symptoms. I have a cow’s milk intoerace and since cows milk can be found in anything from cheese, butter, yogurt, ice-cream, cooking sauces and even bread it’s no wonder I have been having problems … and yes that does include milk chocolate too *sob*
Since receiving my results I have been actively reducing the amount of foods that contain cows milk and cows milk related by products, although having just done a monthly food shop and having a limited budget it does mean that some of the foods I will have to suffer with until next month.
But now I know what is causing the symptoms I can start actively making wiser choices for me to eliminate my symptoms altogether.
Since my intolerance can be a little tricky as its one of those things that occurs in so many foods. It has been really helpful to know that I get the option to call and chat with someone from York Laboratories to if I feel I need more advice or support.
Today I am thrilled once again that York Laboratories have been so generous and are allowing me to give one very lucky reader an adult Food&Drink Scan test for themselves (RRP £299)
