Just what is an average mum?
- spend almost an hour more each day doing housework than dads do
- spend £11 more per week on food and groceries, with 61% of mums saying that price is their biggest consideration when choosing where to shop
- Love to shop in Boots, M&S, Primark, Argos and New Look
And just how does an average mum feel? Well, in general average mums feel fine all day, but their happiness tends to peak at around 7.30pm – now I wonder why that could be?! The most stressful time of day is believed to be 4.30pm – could this be the time when busy mums are post school run, trying to juggle homework, cooking dinner and catching up on housework maybe?
74% of mums use social networking sites in an average week – I think that many mums use social sites as a way to catch up with friends and family, because often there is just no time to meet up properly. As much as I love catching up with friends, I find it really hard to juggle that with childcare, work and general household duties. When did my life start revolving around the washing machine…?
As fun and interesting as this research is, is it accurate? Just what is an average mum these days? I don’t think there is such a thing. We are all different, and rightly so. We all have different routines, some of us have children who require set routines while others don’t. Some of us work outside the home, some are stay at home parents and some, like me, work from home.
There is no right or wrong, there really isn’t. Whatever your average day looks like, it’s perfect for you. Let’s stop trying to compare, stop feeling guilty that we steal 10 minutes to catch up with a friend on the phone instead of building another Lego tower. Whatever you are doing, you are doing it right – just take a look at those happy, healthy children around you – they agree.
