Now those of you that have reading for a while do know that I am not the most culinary creative … in fact where cooking is concerned I cock up on a regular basis and its left me an anxious chef and after some burning incidents in my very early twenties I gave up baking altogether.
Having felt slightly uneasy recently about my ‘job’ in the family and feeling anxious that I am not very domesticated on the kitchen front … plus I need to find other things to do in my kitchen except smoke at the back door (now I have quit) I mentioned to my Mum about baking some things I remember as a child.
When Bethany returned from a flying visit to my Mums, she returned with the bible of childhood memories and the most delicious recipes! yep the Be-Ro book!
I feel I was handed a truly magical book, I remember the beautiful cheese straws my Mum baked at Christmas, the tasty biscuits and pastries as if it were yesterday. I felt honoured!
The following Oliver’s shopping trip included some basic baking ingredients, Self Raising flour, Plain flour, caster sugar, butter and even some greaseproof paper!
Last Wednesday evening I decided that it was in for a penny, in for a pound and that I ought to just crack on with making something…
and so shortbread it was…
Well with new enthusiasm and a baking ego now the size a small race horse I am already planning my next baking sessions .. yep that’s right I have planned 2 more bakes!
At this rate my beaut of a cooker (double oven, 8 rings) will be now be worth having.
However I do now fear for my waist line ..
