It’s no secret that ironing is not my most favourite job in the house, although when I upgraded to a steam generator iron last year I did notice a difference on the amount of time I spent doing this chore.
Recently I was asked if I avoid buying anything in particular when I buy clothes that need ironing and my first thought is anything floaty … thin and burnable .. I am like a disaster area and can often be found burning my ironing and that includes the ironing board.
So with a new ironing board cover, new tops and the new Philips PerfectCare Elite to test drive it was time to start the steam and crack on!
When the iron arrived I have to say it comes in a massive box! … Far bigger than I anticipated but it’s certainly well packaged!
The Philips PerfectCare Elite has by far the biggest water tank of any of my previous steam generator irons including its smaller sibling the PerfectCare Pure which I reviewed earlier in the year having a 1.8 litre water tank that detaches from the iron to fill … so no more jugs too and from the kitchen to the living room for me!
On the first ironing session I have to be honest … I was rather agitated, having read the manual and knowing the steam function works in 2 ways, the steam trigger for short blasts, but for continuous steam you have to click the button twice I must have tried this half a dozen times and was beginning to grumble as it didn’t seem to work ….. Please prepare folks as after good few minutes it gave an almighty steam (scaring me slightly) and after it had finished it worked fine … it was almost like the iron was cleaning its pipes! and has been fantastic ever since, I fear I was probably just inpatient.
One of the most fabulous features of this iron is the fact you never ever have to change the temperature thermostat … as there isn’t one!
The Philips PerfectCare Elite works almost like magic with its unique OptimalTEMP technology so there is no need to constantly change the irons temperature for each item you ion … it does it its self! … now for me this is genius … I am a totally lazy ironer and this is where I tend to burn things frequently! … So how was it with my chiffon top? … Well, it’s about to go out on its second outing this week and the iron glided over without so much as a second stick so I am super happy.
The Philips PerfectCare Elite also has reduced the ironing time again … having gone from the best part of 3 hours a week with a standard corded iron last year to just over and hour and half for a similar weekly amount with the steam generator I can honestly say that with this one it has reduced my time ironing again at just over an hour for a weeks worth of ironing!
Lets be honest this iron is not a cheap option (RRP £320) but for me personally reducing my ironing time to just over an hour a week (that includes school shirts, uniforms and giant pregnancy tents, bedding and work uniform for hubs with only having to iron on one side too (thanks to the powerful steam and the turbo steam settings) I can honestly say it has been worth its weight in gold! … oh and not replacing burnt items is certainly going to help me feel better about the price too!
Thank you Philips PerfectCare Elite … for your light weight iron and super quick expertise … I think I may have fallen in love with ironing all over again!
