Not in the sense that I have an overwhelmingly super wardrobe of bargains.
But as a present shopper!
Now 12 years ago I made the leap while pregnant with Bethany to purchase double the amount of Christmas presents in the space of a week … nuts yes it was, was there method in my madness? it seems there was, since I am now on year 12 of doing this.
I have never been one that enjoys shopping of any sort so Christmas shopping for me surrounded by people pushing, jostling and with the air thick with stress and anxiety really was enough to make me ill!
So when a week before Christmas and all my Christmas shopping was completed I found out I was due a refund on something that had been unexpected so I decided to try out the sales and see if I could come up with a bargain or 2 to take the pressure off.
Now since at that time internet shopping was not on a par with today’s standard, I was one of those crazy folk that dragged themselves out their bed in the early hours of Boxing Day in order to brave the sales.
I hated every second of the pushing and shoving and spending the next 2 days feeling sleep deprived. However with at least 50% off it really financially made sense!
Over the years things have improved on the internet and I no longer even get a chill while buying my bargains, nor do I have to drag myself out of my bed, jostle or put up with being pushed.
Now my Christmas shopping starts on Christmas Day Eve, come the toddlers bedtime where I am attached to my laptop which then leads to the following 3 days to intermittently trawl through my list of online stores that I favour and what do you know 60% of my Christmas shopping is completed for the next year with gigantic savings!
Obviously this has been easy for Joshua for the last 3 Christmases as he doesn’t have a massive preference as he is still so little and it also worked for Beth until she was about 8.
Although I was able to get the basics for everyone then I squirrel away throughout the year to get a couple of the Christmas ‘must haves’ from the TV adverts for the kids and get them as soon as I have saved enough. I also found that listening throughout the year to our relatives helps as I pick up gifts along the way.
So for us sales shopping is a must, I now no longer have to trawl on foot with the pushing and shoving and the incredibly nasty early morning wake up call! I spread my shopping on-line out to fit round the family and visits and all the other things that makes Christmas Christmas!
So while ever I can save over 50% on my presents then this is the way I will continue …
No more last-minute panic buying for me and instead more time do all things Christmas.
