We have eaten in many restaurants over the years but we had never eaten either individually or as a family at Chiquito so we were all excited to get the chance to have some family time and visit our local Chiquito’s (Mansfield) for some laid back dining bursting with Mexican flavours.
We have been massive fans of tex mex flavoured foods for some time so were really looking forward picking from the menu. I had worried slightly that the kids might have a more limited choice as they aren’t known for their variation. However, arriving I was pleasantly surprised.
We were shown to a booth towards the back of the restaurant and it was perfect, although in fairness we would have loved anywhere we were put as the whole restaurant is themed with bright and interesting decorative pieces giving off the most amazing chilled out vibe.
Our waitress was super helpful and the menus were wonderful. The kid’s menu certainly had plenty of favourites on there for the kids and although for Joshua his favourite food is pizza and it was on the menu it had a distinct mexican change with the base being made of tortillas … and it was large! So, large in fact we asked to take the rest home for him.
The adult main menu was packed with flavourful choices and this is something that Ollie sometimes stresses over, as he can be a picky eater. The waitress was super helpful advising which meals we could have things removed from really easily and he was pleased to hear the meal he really wanted could be adapted to remove all traces of onions (Yes life is hard with a non-onion eater) So the Ultimate Fajita was order for him while I went for the BBQ wrap with skin on fries and we ordered several of the side dishes to try too.
I can honestly say the food was mouth-wateringly delicious, it was tasty and fresh and without a doubt Ollie and I both said the food was some of the best food we had eaten out in a very long time. The halloumi side dish was delicious and the skin on fries were crispy on the outside and super soft on the inside giving the perfect taste.
In fact it was declared to be one of the best restaurants we had eaten in within the last couple of years.
The laid-back atmosphere, food and service made for a wonderful meal. In fact, we are already planning on organising some of our special family meals here and to try their breakfast menu too!
I love how you can book online and the full menus can be found online too so you can see their full range of food before you even go if you wish.
With both of us having to drive that day at varying times we didn’t try any of the amazing looking cocktails but we certainly would next time and the street food would also be on my radar too.
Thank you Chiquito for introducing us to your delicious offerings, we will be back!
