It’s really easy to get complacent about the area you live and in fact we had found ourselves over recent months getting stuck in a rut and had travelled outside the county for most of our days out and trying to get sorted to fit in regular quality time we also decided we would look at what our county had to offer instead.
On the first opportunity we had to escape we headed to Newstead Abbey to discover what there was on offer on a miserable damp day.
With meandering paths, waterfalls and the random blooms clinging onto the last dregs of any warmth and sun there might be, it made for an utterly refreshing change to discover what is here everyday of the week and not just when there is an event on like the Emergency Services event last year.
While there the gardeners were in full flow, of chat more than anything else but this only added to the illusion this place creates of calm and peace … However not all the people we came across were so ready to chat, much to Joshua’s disgust!
For me having only discovered the beauty in the local spot only through these cold and wintery months I really cant wait to see what it has on offer in the Spring… although I think next time we need to bring some food for the ducks since the ones we came across followed us round!
While there and under the threat of yet another downpour we did call it a day and missed out about half of the gardens so we still have that to do too … oh and the cafe .. did I mention have cake?? … meaning a whole new adventure is needed sometime soon! and if we really want to push the boat out we could investigate the part of the Abbey that is still open to the public too! …
Fingers crossed for some spare time soon, I feel the need for some fresh air, cake and adventure and Newstead Abbey just might be on the cards!
