Ollie’s car went for an MOT a few months back and he was advised that a set of 4 tyres would beed needed soon and now with a slow puncture and a lot of hope they have lasted just about as long as they can so we are starting to look at getting those replaced within a few weeks .. at goodness knows what cost.
My battle tank of a second hand car for 3 years has served me well, however 8 weeks ago I was on my way to a pre-op appointment when grey smoke started puthering from under the bonnet while driving down a packed duel carriageway …. I must say the pre op was touch and go until my raised blood pressure normalised.
After phoning for breakdown assistance and discovering absolutely nothing (yes they really were that helpful it made me wonder why I pay every month)… I tentatively drove home and got it straight into my local garage to be cared for … who discovered that in fact there was no oil in my car at all and the it had drunk 2 litres of oil since its service a few weeks before… although they couldn’t tell me why or where so much oil had disappeared too I have since become a slight paranoid freak … now I say slight but to be honest I am like a ranking loony toon .. I have to use my car but I am checking its oil almost daily as the thought of breaking down makes me totally irrationally, so much so I really have lost confidence in it.
I miss the feeling of a new car, I miss the smell and the reliability of knowing I could start the car and go wherever and not have to deliberate for 3 days over if my car would make it there in one piece or if in fact it would make it there at all!
A few years before having my daughter I had a care on hire purchase and I loved it .. The reliability I got from having that car really did mean freedom for me.
I suppose now I have a business, albeit a self-employed business I could look at business leasing a car from someone live Parkway Contracts but I think my business is a little less lucrative than I hoped it would have been so will have to hang fire with battle tank for a little while longer …
