If you have been round here for some time you will know that I have been on a health mission for a little while.
This year however we are looking at our health as a whole and so we are looking at ways in which we can make changes to what our children eat too.
Getting into healthy eating habits early on can make a massive difference to how children relate to food so here are some of our plans to make sure we are all developing good eating habits:
Meal planning not only can save you money and save your sanity it can be a really important process to help involve children in what they are going to eat. Why not pick 15 main courses and list of carb and a list of vegetables and salad items and ask them what they would put together? Something like this could be turned into a game for smaller children too.
If you are looking for a good way to track your planned meals there is a lovely printable from Choose My Plate you can find here
After you have a working meal plan, its time to write the shopping list. Getting the kids involved with writing a list or even them writing the lists will encourage awareness in ingredients and methods of how to put together family meals.
Snacks are a must for adults and children alike and this is where I have struggled in the past. Instead of picking snacks for the kids and adult snacks separately I have decided we are going to all have the same snacks. Dried fruits and nuts are a great option for on the go and as a family we are obsessed with popcorn so if it’s not covered in sugars it can also be a great family snack.
Obviously these are just some ideas on how to make some changes to keep the whole family making healthier food choices this year.
