OK so Jacob is 5 months old next week and we are starting to get some bit together to start the weaning process but I have to be honest and say I am terrified.
When I had my first child 15 years ago and then again when I had Joshua 5 years ago I don’t remember there being any ‘baby led weaning‘ ‘spoon fed weaning‘ ‘gentle weaning’ I just followed what I thought was right.
Both of my older children were weaned at 4 month exactly, early yes but after having a super established routine they then went back down to 2 hourly feeds and nothing seemed to fill that gap. This time round I have not been so eager to start.
Knowing Jacob is my last child I have been purposefully trying to hold off starting the weaning process and keep him my littlest spud just a little longer.
Over the last 3 weeks however Jacob has been becoming increasingly peeved come meal times, as we all eat he has decided to watch every mouthful and protest at the lack of it coming his direction, add into the mix his now wakeful nights as opposed to his previously good solid sleep pattern and add in the 70+ ounces of milk he is consuming daily.
I must admit I am also feeling rather anxious about this transition to food due to the acute reflux he has, who knows how this will affect his previously levelled out vomit inducing condition? I fear going back to the days of him screaming and the puke.
I’m planning to go the same route as I did with Joshua and Beth and I will be watching and waiting for his signs and signals, there will be lots of trial and error and I will be finding something that works and sticking with it.
To start with I will be using a whole range of food, firstly baby rice with his milk then purred vegetables, then mixed veg and fruit puree then blended home cooked foods and will even be using jars, packets and pouches.
Baby-Led, Spoon fed or any other method of weaning I will find what works and not stress about any of it.
Wish me luck…
