While on holiday in October we were surrounded by hills, pushchair unfriendly conditions from sand a super steep walk and we literally kicked ourselves that we had never really thought about purchasing a carrier.
I will be honest and say that along with having a medical condition that I am awaiting surgery for so can’t baby wear or carry and loving the comforts of having a large shopping basket on a pushchair it never really occurred to me that Ollie (hubs) would like to carry Jacob and so selfishly I had never really considered any kind of carrier.
After our holiday we were in the throes of looking at them when we were asked by Ergobaby to see if we would like to try their new Ergobaby Adapt carrier and so we jumped at the chance.
If you are sat reading this from a vast experience of baby wearing or carrying I will apologise now as I am a newbie and so have reviewed it with newbie eyes.
So when it arrived I genuinely thought half of it must be missing, the ones I had seen previously had extra pieces that you needed a degree to attach so I was somewhat relieved that this one was all there in one piece.
I guess this is where the name ‘Adapt’ comes from the ways you can wear it and the internal design of the carrier as it can simply be adapted from what is already there to get a carrier to fit from newborn to toddler (7-45 lbs. / 3.2-20 kg) so the functionality is great.
The carrier was easy to adjust to Jacobs size with the velcro sections at the bottom of the carrier and following which colour your child needed and some minor adjustments of the poppers on the bottoms and the side straps it seemed to hold Jacob well.
Now obviously I was aware of the importance of ensuring good hip positioning in carriers so you don’t damage the hips of baby but this carrier seemed to work in our favour and made it almost automatic to achieve the desired M-shape positioning of the hips and legs which for a carrier virgin was great.
We found the buckles were all really strong and the straps on the carrier were well padded and found the padded under support really helpful to ensure Ollie was super comfy, along with a great lumber support at the back.
I personally loved that this carrier can really grow from forward facing, side carrying and even back carrying all in the same carrier so no need to buy several it would be just one carrier all the way through.
For our first attempt as using a carrier we couldn’t have been any happier, it was easy to fit and adjust, Jacob loved it and seemed really comfortable and having the 3 options to use it only pleased me more.
The current retail of this product is £109.90, which although I am a carrier virgin I have researched others and some do come in more costly with far fewer features and several bits that you might need a degree to put together so I would say its more than a fair price for this one especially as it will last from newborn to toddler.
Thank you Ergobaby for making our first able into baby carrying a super easy one!
