For me my love of Tennis developed at Secondary school.
We were very lucky that we had 8 fully functioning tennis courts that we could use each break and lunchtime.
At school there seemed to be very few girls that wanted to partake in the beautiful game of tennis but I never let that stop me, with cycling shorts under my school skirt I hitched up my skirt and played every break time and lunch, often thrashing my playing partner but I never had formal lessons.
It was while I was playing tennis at School that my now husband fell in love with me from afar … however I have yet to find out if was my cycling short and hitched up school skirt or my obviously brilliant backhand ability on the court that swung it …. *mental note made to ask him*
After 17 years apart from our dating days at school over the last 6 years we have regularly found time to squeeze in the odd tennis match and on our recent holidays with Mark Warner we were able to share our love of playing tennis with Joshua too.
We were so lucky on that holiday to get time to play tennis and to introduce Joshua to it too and on our return we promised to try to find a local tennis club to take Joshua too but with becoming pregnant and having a super small baby we never actually got round to it till now!
In a couple of weeks it is officially The Great British Tennis Weekend (Saturday 16th Sunday 17th July) and I for one will be taking the bull by the horns and signing Joshua up for free Tennis sessions at our local club.
You see not only do I love to play and feel a really deep passion for this sport I also think it’s a great sport to get my children into as it’s massively reliant on stamina and hand eye co-ordination both of which are great for kids to learn from any age.
However if you have never played either then don’t worry there is still time to try it yourselves and take the whole family as clubs all over the UK are offering free tennis sessions to both adults and children and all you need is some enthusiasm and you are half way there!
I can’t wait to see how Joshua gets on as I would love to for him to take part in more regular coaching sessions but to make sure he is still like it at much as he did last year on holiday this is ideal, no cost and right on our doorstep.
This is a sponsored post, I’m working with the Lawn Tennis Association to promote the Great British Tennis Weekend #GBTW visit ClubSpark now to find free activities on 16-17 July at your local tennis clubs
