Being a parent to a weaning baby it will come as no surprise that the whole weaning process can be rather stressful, is he eating enough? Should he be eating less? Or more to the point what is he eating?
That last question is one I have asked a lot over the weaning months.
Most of the processed jars of baby food contain orange looking gloop with a varying array of smells but who really know whats in there.
For me and my family we have started addressing our own eating habits and started tackling what we eat too with leaner meats, fresher vegetables and organic alternatives where possible.
Be we aren’t saints and sometimes time is against us and so thinking of being organised bulk making homemade baby food might be the way forward we were excited when we got to try out the OXO Tot Mash Maker Baby Food Mill and the best way to start as we mean to go on is by making Jacobs food with fresh and tasty organic produce from Riverford Organic Veg Boxes company.
Firstly I have to say I knew nothing of veg box deliveries before this so it was nice to find a company that delivers what I need and when its convenient for me with no hassle or stress and if I need inspiration at meal times they even doe recipes cards!
The produce was all amazingly fresh and I loved the fact it still had a little soil on, only proving at just how fresh it was.
Next was the OXO Tots Mash Maker and for this to work I boiled my veggies and then filled up the mill body with the cooked veggies.
I cut my veg fairly small before I boiled it so it was easy to drain and fill the body ready for mashing.
Once you have fill it you pop the top with the blade on and turn the handle and hey presto smush ready for my little man.
I loved the really chunky texture that using this once left us with, which was ideal for stage two weaning.
For more sloppy purees I put it through the machine twice and if it was still not runny enough I used cool boiled water to loosen the constancy.
The Mash Maker comes apart easily so its easy to clean which is an added bonus.
Between the Riverford Organic boxes and the OXO Tot Mash Maker we have been able to batch cook and freeze healthy and nutritious baby foods that we know exactly whats in them!
