Getting fit and healthy has been on my radar on and off for the last 3 years, throw in a pregnancy, a further operation and a period of reoccupation and my target of getting healthier has now got back on track but did you know that taking up fitness needs more than just getting your butt through the door?
It’s a lesson I learnt very early on when I returned to play hockey and ended up with shin splints and a torn muscle. Ill fitting training shoes do damage to all parts of your body from bones and muscles to ligaments and cartridge.
After seeing a specialist it seems I have flat feet and needed a training shoe that supports my arch as being flat-footed it seems my arches are not as high as they could be so making sure I buy well supporting trainers preferably with arch support to ensure my gait is where it needs to be.
This week I have gone back to the couch to 5k and I finally have 2 pairs of well supporting trainers, one pair some black Nike ladies Trainers (Nike Air Zoom Vomero 12) and a pair of bright yellow The Supernova Glide 7 Boost from Adidas that I am now able to alternate their wear as its good form to rotate multiple pairs of trainers.
This week has been super hard on my battered body but having comfy feet makes it easier and one less thing to worry about.
The Nike Air Zoom have been the trainer of choice and I love the way they make me feel like my feet bounce! Next weeks it will all be about the Adidas for the first half of the week then the second half back to the Nike.
I have had to go up a half-size for running in as feet swell a little when hot. I learnt my lesson with my last pair that hurt my toenails and gave me blister. This time comfort and support is the way forward… Although my husband laughed when I showed him my yellow trainers colour is not top of the pick list for me.
Watch this space for my fitness update later this week.

Good luck with your goals! I know you can do it! I could do with some new trainers with all my half marathon training they wear out so quickly x
