After writing the other day about past holidays it got me reminiscing about my first and last (so far) girly holiday.
I think being a single mum at the tender age of 21 did not go in my favour on the footloose and party holiday free front, money was tight and time was more so!
So when one of my longest standing friends suggested one new year that the following year would be our year to have some fun I was more than ecstatic to think about saving up and having some quality friend time.
Initially it was a nightmare to organise who wanted to go where but after a lot of text messages, phone calls and frustration we all decided on taking our holiday in Turkey .
With its beautiful sandy beaches and delicious foods, Turkey was the perfect retreat and once the decision had been made the all-inclusive hotel quickly followed for myself and my 3 travelling chums.
It was on this trip I discovered my fear of airplanes, enclosed spaces and panic attacks but stepping out into that scorching heat more than made up for the 4+ hours of cold sweats and the feeling of faintness, but more on that another time!
The weather was in the 40+ degrees for the entire week and the staff were super attentive with the drinks and even brought them to you to make sure you were drinking lots of water and juices .. along with the odd fruity cocktail!
For a whole week I did nothing other than bake in the sun, laugh and sleep … although at the time it was the most perfect time out and gratefully received, my holidays this days are so different with limited late nights, ice-cream faces, temper tantrums, inflatable, factor 50+, baby wipes and arguing (let’s be honest there is always a little bit of that thrown in!)
OK … that just might be my family?
….. but for me …. I wouldn’t have it any other way these days …..
