Well this one marks my first ever No Smoking Day (other than when I was pregnant) in the last 15 years!
Yep last October after seeing all the progress from others who were giving up for Stoptober I jumped on the band wagon and joined Boots for their Smoke Free and gained myself a shiny bubbly advisor.
It was really really hard I kid you not, I became a vile being to be around, I growled, I snarled and I was utterly unpleasant during those first few weeks. As time progressed I struggled with the fact I still craved the taste more than I thought I would and for far longer than I thought I would.
This month I am officially 5 months smoke free and this last 4-6 weeks I have felt a massive improvement on my health and fitness but more importantly I have lost all desire to smoke or smell it. In fact the other day I walked past someone smoking in the street and it made me retch!
Had I not of given up smoking I know there would of been no way I would of been able to start running (albeit on the treadmill) nor would I of been able to complete the epic charity adventure a few weeks ago that in fact saw my walking what could only be described as a marathon!
Initially I kid myself I was not a hardened smoker and it would be easy but I only fooled myself, although that didn’t last long! It was jolly hard work and the first couple of weeks you really need to invest in yourself and your avoidance of smoking in what ever way seems to work best for you.
