It’s been a well documented fact that we all should be eating 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day .. However recent research has hinted that we should be eating double that.
I am sure I am not alone in thinking 5 was at least doable, however 10 is not so?!
In light of this new research over recent months we have looked at ways of increasing fruit into the families diet. From adding fruit into jelly to adding sneaky veg into well-loved family meals (and blending if we need to) and its worked but not as easy as it could be.
However by adding a 150 mL of 100% pure orange juice in to our diets (and that includes Joshua too) it has been an easy and hassle free addition and it can also be bought cheaply at any super market.
Pure orange juice is a good source of vitamin C which is essential for a healthy immune system, along with potassium and folates which are a must for a balanced diet. Also as part of a meal it can also help increase the absorption of iron-rich foods like some fortified cereals, beans and pulses! We have been adding fruit juice to Joshua’s breakfast time but some days especially when it warmer we are planning on making ice lollies out of it by freezing it (nothing fancy needed, we used paper cups and plastic spoons) We have had a trial run ready for the summer … well you have to don’t you! Although if your little one can’t wait for them to freeze you can eat them like slushies too!
