OK, we all knew it was a special day, Jacob however just thought it was a normal day but with presents and cake.
I love that the 1st and 2nd birthdays tend to be underwhelming for us adults. We plan, make, bake and buy in anticipation of all the birthday excitement and our kids tend to be totally oblivious about it all and its only the 3rd, maybe the 4th birthday that you end up with the child that is so excited the night before they won’t sleep and then spends the whole day bouncing from the ceiling.
Jacob’s 2nd birthday was just as I thought, Ollie, Joshua and I were all planning and getting excited and he was just oblivious. He opened one present at a time and had to be bribed to come back and open another as he was just content with the one gift in his hand.
He adored his kitchen and his Fireman Sam toys but soon was more bothered about his breakfast than his new toys but we were determined we were going to get some quality time in with him.
After Joshua headed off to school we headed to Grandma and Grandad Oliver for a quick visit and to then Ollie and I took Jacob to the local farm park to meet some real animals and have a wonder round.
Although it’s absolutely freezing it was dry and the farm park was almost empty so Jacob got to wonder freely from animal to animal. He adored the meerkats
Along with llamas the goats were by far his favourites though and we did have to restrain him from kissing the goats as he went in for a peck, much to the goats disgust as I think he liked the look of his coat hood!
We headed into the indoor play area and we were the only ones in there so it was only right Jacob claimed abroad my sledge with me and we raced Ollie down the sledging hill … of course Jacob and I won.
After heading across the road for lunch in a pub we headed back to get the home tea party ready and let Jacob play with his new toys. Then it was time for a family tea party for us and then just in time some birthday cake Effie and Grandad arrived for a flying visit before Jacob headed off to bed.
This year was a rather low key birthday but next year I think he will be OTT and sick with excitement. For now however Jacob is thrilled with all his new toys and I am still in denial that he has actually turned two.
