Regular readers will know that I am desperately trying to find the time to head back to the gym, something I started in preparation for my operation as I needed to shed some pounds before the surgery.
Never in a million years did I think I would actually enjoy it, nor that I would be so eager to return but I really did surprise myself and not only did I push myself to go regularly for a time but once there I was having fun and looking forward to my next classes and workouts.
I’m not saying it was easy, far from it and more often than not I would be left in pain – but they do say “No pain, no gain” so I pushed on through.
My pain was more from getting used to using muscles I was unused to using, some of which I may have NEVER used previously but while I was there I did see others in pain from the machines, lack of warm ups and using the equipment in the wrong manner.
Did you know that 47% of Brits have suffered from a ‘gym-jury’ in the quest for a perfect body, 12% have ended up in A&E after a workout has gone wrong and 18 percent have a back problem due to exercise suggests a new study by Hayward Baker.
With around 38% of gym goers not warming up correctly it is no wonder the amount of injuries is so high and with approximately 1 in 20 not having been taught how to use the equipment correctly there has certainly been a rise in those looking at free to use injury compensation calculators.
You can take a look at this infographic which shows the types of gym injuries which occur:
After a recent car accident I am hoping to be fit enough to go back to the gym soon but will be taking more time myself to get back to knowing how the machines work properly when I do.
Have you ever been injured while working out in the gym?
