Last year it would be fair to say we were somewhat adventure hunters with multiple holidays with a 4-year-old and a pregnant bump.
We travelled to both Tunisia, Rhodes last year … along with me fitting in a work trip to Cologne, not to mention the UK trips.
I know there is far more to see and do if you are not so tied down to all inclusive package holidays, when travelling abroad and even in the UK we ought to think more about stepping out of our same old travel rut and experience more adventures in anyway possible.
So I have spent some time looking at ways we can take our next holiday either aboard or in the UK without travel stress, after all stressing about packing cases is enough for everyone!
The first thing I am intending to do on our next abroad holiday re nappies and milk is to order from Boots before we fly as if there is a Boots store at the airport you can order before you fly and then collect it on the other side while you await boarding, no stress packing it in the main luggage and it makes it ideal if you are intending to use formula milk while away that is in carton form as you have it to hand and ready to drink!
Try to keep to routines with little ones as much as possible, we planned Joshua’s afternoons sleeps with the timing of the flights and so after feeding him on the plane he did actually nap which was super helpful but can’t always be guaranteed…. It also works super well with UK travel too.
We also packed toys for the journey, and bought cheap things from places like the £1 shop so if they went missing there were no tears from the adults.
On our next adventure we are planning to hire a car and have been advised to book this before we travel so it’s ready at the airport. Now although most companies can and will provide car seats at a cost there are other factors to consider if you are hiring outside of the UK, such as the condition of the seat and how safe they are. Take breaks where you can, I know this might sound self explanatory but we found for both holidays abroad and at home the more you rush the more stress and anxiety there is … if possible plan in some breaks in travel, a pit stop here and their can really defuse the stress levels for everyone.
I don’t think there is ever a full proof way of having totally stress free holiday travel, but limiting it is certainly what I am aiming for next time.
