The Islands Around Britain You Need to Visit

The Islands Around Britain You Need to Visit The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseWhen you think of a UK holiday, most people think of a city break to one of the capitals, to the countryside for some peace and quiet, or to the coast for a sunny beach holiday. However, there are also plenty of islands around Britain that are absolutely fantastic destinations either for a holiday or even just a day trip. Here are just a few of them…

Anglesey
If you’re after a family beach holiday or even just a trip to the beach for a day out then Anglesey is a great choice. Off the north west tip of Wales, Anglesey is relatively easy to get to and has some fantastic beaches; Newborough Beach is regularly voted one of the best beaches in the UK. It’s a relatively affordable place to getaway and there are a number of caravan parks around the island.

Isle of Wight
The Isle of Wight is another great destination if you’re looking for a coastal getaway with its 57 miles of coastline and various different types of beach. There are also several beautiful villages dotted around the island, including Seaview, Sandown and Yarmouth. If you’re a big music fan then you might also fancy taking a trip there in June for the Isle of Wight festival. Isle of Man
Situated midway between England and Ireland, the Isle of Man sees huge numbers descend each year for the TT motorcycle races, but there’s much more to it than that. It’s incredibly picturesque and is great for hiking and just relaxing amongst the great scenery. You may even see a dolphin or two swimming in the water.

Orkney Islands
Scotland is jam packed with amazing heritage and historical sites and the Orkney Islands are just one example, boasting wonderful UNESCO World Heritage sites and stunning beaches. There are also some stunning ancient ruins, particularly in Skara Brae, but with around 70 islands in all, you’ll be spoilt for choice of where to go. As there’s so much to mention about the Orkney Islands, it’s best of visiting here for more information.

Tresco
Off the coast of Cornwall are the Isles of Scilly, but rather than just put all of those on the list, we’ve gone a little more specific and chosen Tresco. The waters surrounding Tresco are absolutely amazing and look like something from the Mediterranean, whilst the Tresco Abbey Gardens are also a must visit.

Mull
If you like the great outdoors then Mull is a wonderful place to get away from it all. The views are breathtaking and there’s a whole host of wildlife to spot roaming the hills. It’s great for hiking and there are also a number of caves to explore if you fancy doing something a little different. It’s also the home of children’s TV show Balamory so if you have little ones then a visit to Tobermory where it’s filmed is a must.
