How on earth has it been over a month since Jacob was born?
It really does seem like only a couple of weeks since we were in hospital waiting for our slot to go and have the elective section!
Even though time has flown we also seem to have fitted in so much, registering his birth, several meals out, several family gatherings, half term holidays and way too many sleepless nights to contemplate!
With only staying in hospital 24 hours after my elective section the first few days at home coping on just paracetamol and ibuprofen were *cough cough* interesting … in fact scratch that it was agony, making bonding with Jacob super hard as I couldn’t lift him or bend properly … Thankfully Ollie was home on paternity leave so he was able to do the lions share of the nappies, lifting and helping me get up and down.
However even with an infected wound I soon got the hang of scooping Jacob up and we got into a routine, all be it a lazy one.
While Ollie was off for paternity for the first 2 weeks followed by 2 weeks of annual leave we discovered Jacobs love of the bath … initially he was unsure but once he realised we were not going to take him out and he got some time in there he loved it. During week 3 I also got to take him in the family bath with Joshua and I … although the milk on tap had him hooked and he now likes to breastfeed while in the bath with me! However on the feeding front he is a total cluster feeder and will go a fair amount of time without a feed only to then want several feeds in one sitting instead!
For the first few weeks we have had to keep our eyes on Jacob when in Joshua’s presence as he wants to love him and cuddle him all the time … so have been monitoring them closely! … Although it has been super lovely watching their relationship develop.
Jacob for this first month has pretty much had his night and day totally round the wrong way which has been hard, but now Ollie is back at work and normal service is verging on returning I am hoping that this will help to get days and nights in the right place!
I am so hoping that month 2 slows down just a little bit as It really is flying far too quickly!
