For quite some time I had known there maybe something wrong with Joshua’s insides based on the amount of upset tummy’s he got and the times he mentioned he had tummy ache.
But after a visit to the paediatric Consultant last year we were no further forward with what was causing his discomfort.
I had tried making notes of his food intake and his upset tummy’s but had not pin pointed one particular thing that set it off.
Recently I was contacted by the lovely team at York Test Laboratories to see if they could help get to the bottom of what was causing the issues for Joshua.
York Test Laboratories are an established Food Intolerance testing service with 35 years experience and with their services there is no need to go anywhere as it’s all done from the comfort of our own home.
Joshua was given a Junior FoodScan to try out and I was thrilled at just how easy they made it once the pack arrived.
Everything came clearly labelled and the instructions were great to follow.
Joshua was initially really worried about having his finger pricked to get the blood sample but he said it wasn’t that bad when I had to carry out the finger prick on him!
I collected the sample and filled in the form and added his details to the kit (they even include a pen!) and then popped it all in the envelope provided.
A couple of days later I received an email to say that the kit had been received and a few days later I received a further email saying the test results were on their way back to us.
All in all I think the whole timeline only took a week which is a super turnaround, although I am not sure if that’s standard practice or if that’s dependant upon how busy they are but I do LOVE how they keep me informed of where we were at in the process.
I know this sounds odd but I was excited and relieved that Joshua’s test came back with an intolerance, it meant there was something we could make step to avoid and secondly it meant we could finally get him feeling better.
He was allergic to Turkey! … Of all things!
The results came back with a full breakdown of the results and also a pack with information on about reading your results and a further letter already to give into school or a childcare providers. Thankfully we have the most amazing School for Joshua and the moment we found out they started the ball rolling to remove anything with turkey on the menu.
It’s early days in Joshua’s diagnosis but for the first time in a long time we don’t feel anxious about what causes his painful tummy aches and diarrhoea. We now feel hopeful that we can now eliminate Turkey from his diet.
I am so thrilled today to be able to offer one very lucky reader a full Junior FoodScan test for their smaller person aged 2-18 (RRP £250) of their very own.
