Having been National Heritage members since last August and having only visited Whitby Abbey with our Memberships we decided to finally get our act together and visit places nearby using our memberships, first on the list was Bolsover Castle.
Bolsover Castle is only about 30 minutes away from us and although the snow had almost melted at home when we arrived at Bolsover it was still inches thick in snow in parts!
This lovely little (and it is fairly little in the grand scheme of castles) really is lovely I know there had been a massive amount invested in refurbishing parts of what was Sir William Cavendish pride and joy.
We loved the fact that the it was not packed with too much to see in terms of furniture but instead there were a few key pieces which was enough and it allowed us to use our imaginations!
There were some super items of clothing to get dressed up into if you wanted to, which Ollie and Joshua both had a go with and there were some stunning pictures .. Although many were in my uneducated opinion .. a little odd.
We fell in love with this little Castle and although we couldn’t do the walled walk due to the snow and ice we loved the walled garden and fountain and with events on all year we are certainly going to be taking another trip there when the weather warms up and there is no snow in sight.
With dramatic views and lots to see and do I can see us spending a lot more time there!
