A little while back I wrote about the fact that during this pregnancy in the first 8 months I had only gained 8lbs.
To many this might not be epic but for me it has been not only a massive achievement but also been incredibly eye opening.
My battle with my weight had been one that I have been on for 15 years, I have yoyo’d up and down and more up than down and it’s certainly taken its toll on me mentally and physically.
However during this pregnancy I have had a light bulb moments with me finally understanding and realising several things, Firstly my routine of eating was way out of whack for me.
In my head meals were set times, with the exception of breakfast that never happened, lunch at 12 and tea time between 5-6pm …. Working from home doing a rather sedentary job it would be fair to say that my body had rather a limited ability to burn off a big tea so late at night.
So suffering with heartburn in the pregnancy I avoided eating heavy food after 5pm and in fact moved my meals round so my biggest meal was at lunch time and more of a snack at tea time .. And also included regular breakfasts!
Not only has it made me feel less sluggish but I am also feeling far healthier and less drained throughout the day too.
My final realisation was the fact I didn’t really know what I was eating…. I know this sounds strange, after all I am a grown women but its true I relied very heavily on pre packed/pre cooked products and ignoring what they contained has played a massive part on hiding calories and me burying my head in the sand.
Over the last 6 months or so I have taken back the kitchen and started preparing far more ‘cooked from scratch’ meals and have even taken this further with batch cooking meals too.
Once baby is born I am not only going to up the exercise but also keep eating the same way I am now, I will be taking out the pre packed and pre cooked in favour of cooking from scratch and being more proactive at just what we are eating as a family.
