My Child Is Weird, But I’m OK With That
Ever since Ben was a baby he liked to watch TV. I thought this was due to his night feeds coinciding with a programme on Pick called Monkey World. He had a fixation with monkeys since that day and even now, if you give him a monkey toy or a regular toy to choose, the monkey would be taken every time.
As Ben got older, he stayed awake more during the day and therefore I just left my tv programmes on in the background. I went through all Criminal Minds and Scandal box sets and Ben loved it. Even loving to watch Jeremy Kyle and more recently Celebrity Big Brother!
Now he is that much older and can sit watching tele with us for a while, I’ve also tried to put on Paw Patrol, that worked for a few days but then he lost interest. Queue disappointment as I’d gone out and bought all the DVD’s HMV sold for Christmas Stocking fillers!
Today, Ben was watching Four in a bed, a show about bloody B&B’s!! why do kids programmes not interest him? Believe me, I’m loving that I can watch what ever I want, but why is he different? Even at his Nan’s he watches Hawaii Five-O with her, she tried kids TV but he didn’t want to know!
Another one, he sleeps… a lot. (well not right now as he’s sick) But he usually naps 11-1 then 3-4 and goes to bed around 7pm to 8.30am. I was a sleepy baby so maybe he has it from me, but boy can he sleeeep!! I feel like I’m missing out on being part of the parent club as most of the time I’m not a walking zombie and I drink coffee for fun, not necessity! He has slept this well since about 12 weeks I think? maybe slightly earlier, but I have never been so thankful for a baby that sleeps so effortlessly. Apart from if he is unwell. Then he just doesn’t. this past month has been his worst. He wont sleep until the early hours and then when he wakes up wont nap until gone 3pm. However today he napped for three hours so i did a victory dance!
Ben also hates, and I mean HATES tummy time. He cries his eyes out every time he rolls onto his front, he cries when we put him on his front and I just don’t think he will ever change. I mean, how in hell is he supposed to crawl, if he even will? He just wants to stand all the time which is good for me now he was a walker and jumperoo as it was becoming back-breaking!
So I have a sleeping beauty who would watch adult tele over kids TV, whilst standing for hours! For a seven month old he is so fiercely headstrong!
What random, out of the ordinary things do your kids do?
