That’s the festive tune we were singing last night.
The Oliver’s (as in us) were a fairly recent development in the grand scheme of things (5 years) we both came from our own homes when we decided to live together so when it came to Christmas decorations we have always kind of being the make do family. With cast offs from relatives along the way I am almost positive that not one of our past decorations had been new and in bought and chosen by us.
So at the end of the last festive season I threw out most of what we had and decided to replace everything in the sales …. it never happened.
This year making the year of setting our own traditions we have done a complete u-turn and instead of investing in a plastic tree we actually went out and bought a real life one instead …. which will not only be the first tree Ollie and have picked together it’s also my very first real life tree! …. although that’s not including the tree branches I brought back as a child from the forest to decorate!
We headed off this weekend to our local Homebase in search of real Christmas Trees … and we were not disappointed! … we were almost verging on hyper!
I have honestly never seen so many Christmas Tree’s in all my life! .. the smell of Christmas was amazing. as was choosing exactly the tree we wanted .. we had a set criteria … it had to be taller than Ollie, it had to have lots of branches and at the top not bold for the last 6 inches (which more trees than I realised have that issue!)
We selected our non top balding tree and it was a unanimous decision when we found it … he (yep my Christmas tree is a he) he was very carefully wrapped and we carried him to the car like one of our own.
Today we have titivated him and given him a clean trunk (sawn off half an inch on the bottom) we have also given him a colourful make over to….
