For us when we first became a family of 4 we were not particularly active, Hubby has a condition called hip impingement which scuppered his plans to be still playing football in an extreme way. In fact these days, more gentle forms of exercise are needed for him.
As far me I lost 4.5 stones and then went back to playing hockey only to give up smoking last year and then put 2.5 stones back on all while living with SPD that never went away, I now play through the pain some weeks but still love it and to top it off my daughter now play hockey too in the junior team for the ladies team I play for, this is of course not when she is sleeping the days away and the toddler is just happy in the fresh air.
So for me making sure that either as a family or individually we needed to get outside in the fresh air when we could, we needed to try new things and most of all we needed it to become like second nature so both children grow into healthy adults with hopefully a passions to be fit and active.
Last year I started a bloggers linky called Active Family to help encourage others to become fit and healthy in what ever form that was for them .. together, on their own, inside or out as long as it was physical and it was great for spurring me on and giving me and others that linked up more ideas.
We tried lots of new things last year, windsurfing, biking, swinging through trees and even making up garden games, the one I personally would love to do more of is to play tennis and maybe even teach my daughter.
After some ill-health over the winter in which I stopped posting Active Family for a few months I restarted the linky again after a successful operation earlier in the year.
I have re-motivated myself and I am back on the journey to encourage my family to be fit and health, so far it’s not been an easy one and I know there is lots more hard work to come to lose this weight after giving up smoking .. but I am excited and I know of 3 others under this roof that are too .. after all who knows what we will try next ..
