This year has been very different from others.
I spend so long behind my camera that I don’t actually get time to live in the moment and I often find I miss so much of any special events or times of the year.
This Christmas I charged the big camera and then … never used it.
For the first time in nearly 5 years of owning a ‘big’ camera I went back to basics and only used my phone and even then I got only a handful of photos.
I forgot about photographing and started being part of it instead.
I missed so many cracking photo opportunities on the morning of Christmas but I don’t care, I played with the kids and helped free their newest possessions from their plastic incarcerations instead. I cooked dinner stress free. Even when I managed to melt a magnet in the oven after it stuck to the baking tray.
After some help from my Mum, freeing the molten glup from the oven shelf and even that wasn’t enough to dampen down my Christmas spirits.
Joshua was in full hyperactive form with level of excitement reaching a crescendo around the 11 am point when Grandad arrived for some awaited game playing.
Jacob on the other hand had been super poorly for the few days running up to Christmas Day and had even woken in the night poorly so he spent Christmas day shifting from mardy and clings to super excited and squealy … and even Chocolate did nothing to peak his enthusiasm beyond reasonable excitement levels and certainly nothing like the levels his brother reached!
The morning was spent with visit from my lovely in-laws followed by my parents arriving for lunch which was a low-key chilled out affair.
Ollie and I always say we aren’t going to give each other much for Christmas and this is normally followed by me sending a list of items that I might love, which he then goes and gets and I love them but not many times does he wonder from that list as I am notoriously hard to buy for as I am a Marmite kinda gal. I either love something or I hate it.
This year Ollie took a massive risk and he bought me the most amazing ring, from Pandora.
It has been one I have coveted from afar for so long and each time we had been into town I had looked at it. Well, the boy did good.
He secretly went to buy it and even got it in the right size but because it was a wide band my fat podgy fingers wouldn’t fit it. *sob* So I visited Meadowhall on the 27th and swapped it for one that did (which was my second choice and I love it)
The afternoon was spent with all 4 of us climbing back into our fat pants (PJ’s) and putting on some films and eating chocolate. Although I am told I had rather a lengthy nap *cough cough*
I can honestly say that as Christmas days go this was one of my favourite. Chilled out, relaxed and each and every one of us spoilt.
Maybe more Christmas day’s will be a big camera free day and I can make the memories instead of documenting everyone else’s.
