Jacobs weaning journey has been a mixed bag of highs and lows and now he is seems to have turned a corner and independence is now the key with him.
However with independence comes mess … a whole heap of food mess.
We thankfully have been able to change his highchair recently which has enabled us to bring Jacob to the table with us to eat. But he has also decided his previous method of filling his face (fingers only) is not what the big people do so he has been eager to have real cutlery and cups more like this brother.
Thankfully Tommee Tippee have had my back with this next stage of development with their magic mat and sectioned plates Jacob has settled into mealtime with ease as his plate is similar to ours and the magic mat with its suction helps keep the mess to a minimum. We found however wetting the mat makes for better suction and although if he plays a lot with it the plates will come off we are able to get to anything before it hits the deck!
The magic mat can also be used with the essentials bowls and plates so its part of a system that can grow.
Sippy cups have also been on the radar too as Jacob was keen to have cups like his brother but straws and free flow items were not a good mix with Jacob and his throwing arm so the insulated straw cups have been amazing! And he has taken to them well. For me there is less mess, they are easy to clean and most of all Jacob thinks he is like his big brother with his straw too! .
We teamed the insulated straw cups with the insulated sip cups too to get him used to different methods of drinking out the cups. With the insulated range they have been a godsend through the warmer weather as they keep the drink cooler for longer meaning they don’t get hot if left in the sun and the fact they aren’t free flow means my soft furnishing have been far less soggy.
Jacobs favourite Tommee Tippee item however has been the First cutlery set which he has LOVED! Easy for little fingers and he has loved having the ability to stab and spear his food which he has done with relish!
So far I think updating some of his weaning tableware has been certainly interesting but without a double beneficial for him. He is so much more positive at meal times without half as much stress as now he wants to eat his food!
