After being introduced to the Big Little Tent Festival while at Britmums Blogging Conference a few months back I instantly fell in love with the concept.
The Caravan Club hosted an official Big Little Tent Festival at Alderstead Heath Caravan Club Site for the launch event a few weekends ago, however the baton had been passed to each and every one of us to get the kids outside and to enjoy a night camping, making memories and having fun.
We started thinking about planning for this weekend a few weeks back and this weekend was the first weekend of school holidays. After a really great year in reception class it seemed to make sense to start the holidays off as we mean to go on … outside and having fun!
Last weekend we turned off the technology and escaped to our new home for the weekend, well Sunday morning at least … the tent.
With some much-needed help from my sister the tent was up, however the blow up airbed was not quite so easy to sort …
Although turn taking blowing it up by mouth with my sister showed it what for!
Next on the list was a paddling pool (obviously with rubber ducks) and no festival will be complete without BBQ burgers so a cheap instant BBQ was at the ready.
This was the first weekend in a very very long time that we have taken the time out to head into our garden to spend time laughing and enjoying each others company and I have no idea why its taken signing up to motivate me to do this but I am so grateful that it has.
Joshua loved spending time in the paddling pool and was not alone since we woke up to find a visitor in it, Thankfully it was the only visitor we had!
Unfortunately my sister couldn’t stay over and Ollie had work in the morning so he slept in the house with baby Jacob but my little camping partner Joshua and I were planning a full night under canvas!
Firstly it was time for some bubble blowing and some laughter before lights out and some snuggle time.
After some chatting about who Spongebob Squarepants’s friends are, who his enemies are and what we need to do if we need a pee in the middle of the night it was time to relax and breath in the fresh air.
Joshua lasted all of ten minutes actually watching Spongebob before crashing and burning till Daddy collected us from the tent to take over Jacob while he went to work.
As much as I hate to say it but its been the first time in a very long time that either of us has slept that well, I slept so soundly I never moved all night!
This weekend has been amazing and spending time as a family followed by some Mummy/Son quality time really was the icing on the cake.
I totally have no doubt that more quality family time will be coming this summer and I know Ollie has plans soon on having some one on one time with Joshua in the tent too.
Thank you Big Little Tent Festival for showing us it’s not about spending money and reminding us just how much fun garden camping can be.
