I am going to say right off the bat .. we are not massive Valentines fans. Ollie and I prefer to make our getting together anniversary and Wedding anniversary a time to celebrate just for us, to celebrate us from the past, us from the now and us and what will be in our future.
Not being massively fussed with the 14th February to celebrate we do tend to be a little alternative and pick a day/evening after that date where we can go and grab a child free meal together instead .. not only does this save money it means we have the pick of where we would like to go and what parents don’t need quality time together even if that is just a meal.
Having read a lovely post via Sonya at The Ramblings of A Formally Rock and Roll Mum in which she is sharing and asking “What do you keep about to remind you of your love?” it got me thinking.
Ollie and I have been together for almost 5 years and in those 5 years we have created and collected a few little items that reminds us of special times not just as a couple but also as a family (obviously not all of our special times resulted in items or we would end up living in the shed through lack of space)
Here are a couple of trinkets us Oliver’s have collected … that mean love to us…
Whitby Lucky Ducks
These little stained glass ducks each stand for a member of The Oliver’s household – with each Lucky Duck representing one of our birthdays and Whitby being such a magical place for our family including my parents in law (who also have lucky ducks) its nice to keep on with this tradition.
We bought this the day after we eloped and married in Whitby .. forget plastic silver horseshoes we went for this personalised plaque, that hangs in our kitchen window and I smile at everyday.
It was only a cheap memento that caught our attention when we walked past a shop in whitby .. but we really love the sentiment behind it so its here to stay.
We don’t have masses of trinkets and keepsakes as it kind of goes against grain with my OCD tendencies … we do however have an abundance of photographs, maybe we can spend Valentines looking through out photos and eating beans on toast? … well its just an Idea.
Do you have lots of keepsakes?
