Pregnancy cravings have been something of a frustration over recent weeks, mainly as this pregnancy I hoped to crave something interesting … OK maybe not coal or tarmac or toilet tissue or anything equally as ridiculous.
However this time round I keep craving the same thing pretty much on and off for the entire duration! …. Cheese sandwiches … with butter.
For those of you have followed my journey, you will know I have been desperately trying to watch what I have been eating as I was overweight before embarking on my pregnancy so ensuring that I did not add 5 stone this pregnancy like I had with the previous 2 really was paramount to me…. although cheese nor bread was ever going to be a helpful at assisting me with this challenge so I have tried to kerb it to one sandwich a day, along with my normal diet.
Don’t get me wrong there were times my cravings slightly shifted for a day or 2 with corned beef sandwiches stepping in there and then this last week turkey sandwiches were the thing … however I can assure its referred back again to cheese and I am now wondering will sandwiches be the only thing this pregnancy that I crave to the point of selling my kidneys to ensure I have one?! … thankfully I have not had to go that far.
With my first pregnancy nearly 15 years ago I craved raw carrots up until about 7 months pregnant then it was Weetabix and semi skimmed milk for the remainder, needless to say I was not really impressed with these super healthy cravings and thankfully they changed with my second nearly 5 years ago when I was partial to white chocolate, although it was more a love of, than a craving as I didn’t NEED it.
According to the BBC Food website they claim that food cravings might mean it’s your body actually craving something from that food itself and so it’s ensuring you take on what it needs, Even though I have suffered with depression in my pregnancy nothing has really effected the cravings I have had which I kind of hoped it would … after all did no one tell my pregnancy just how much I love Chinese food?
As I embark on my last month of this pregnancy It will be interesting to see if this continued love of sandwiches stays or goes … One thing is for sure once baby is here the carb overload is going to have to stop!
Did you or anyone you know have odd cravings?
