Quality time is something that we don’t get a lot of and so when those times pop up we tend to spend as much of it in the garden as possible, whatever the weather.
Recently we were asked if we would like to take a look at a solid teak wooden bench for the garden by the lovely folks over at Sloane & Sons Garden Benches who are a midlands based company not far down the road from me and I was excited.
In the past we have only ever bought garden furniture while on offer in a supermarket and even then it wasn’t made of wood. Although having looked at our second set of furniture in 8 years and realising it once again looked super drab and worn I was hopeful a solid teak bench would be our saving grace and would show our garden in a more classic and non fussy light I wanted.
There is such an amazing choice of benches on offer with Sloane & Sons Garden Benches, from the classic to the more contemporary and all made with teak which is a tropical hardwood that has great water resistance.
We chose the Winchester Single Oval Backed Teak Garden Bench and I loved the look of it on-line with its smooth sweeping back and classic look.
When it arrived it came flat-packed and even though we are master of the flat pack there was moment where I did swallow hard and think I might have bitten off more than I could chew after all there is a big difference to Ikea flat pack to then deal with solid wood grade A teak!
Thankfully on opening the box I breathed a sigh of relief that firstly there were some super instructions (with diagrams) that made it super easy to understand and that there were only 4 pieces to put together with minimal work involved.
In terms of the putting together I am immensely impressed and totally hooked that such solid and chunky furniture can be put together with a handful of wooden dowels and 4 screws!
I love how solid our beautiful bench feels, I love the fact it’s now going to be with us for many many years to come.
I also love the fact that all the teak wood used in their benches comes from ecologically managed plantations in Indonesia. These managed plantations ensure that they are sustainable and protected by continuous replanting. Each product sold by Sloane & Sons Garden Benches comes with a unique code that you can even track down where its wood was originally from should you wish to do so with Trees 4 Trees.
Thank you Sloane & Sons Garden Benches for showing me that the way forward for our garden is teak and master craftsmanship not plastic and plain.
