My teen already worships her current 3ds and that being the case made it difficult to get a look in and ‘borrow’ it to play. So when I was told I would be receiving one to take a look at I was super excited that for once I would get to play without having to give it back on level 6.
So when it arrived I had already been researching at what the new console had to over in terms of notable differences compared to the current 3ds and just like with all things over time an upgrade is fab for making an improvement in order to make something better!
So what are the differences between the original 3ds and the New 3ds?
Firstly there is a really obvious change before you open the console and that is the new version is fitted with removable covers so you can personalise your console with funky new covers .. Although this is an option not a necessity.
On opening there are several brand new features which will glaringly obvious to those that have been using the original version in that buttons on the right have taken on a new colours (like the old style SNES .. gosh thats a blast from the past, but being a total SNES lover this is a great change in my book) and there is even a brand new C stick above the A,B,X &Y buttons add to that the 2 extra control buttons on the back of the unit making up ZL and ZR and it means a whole new world of functionality!
Most of the other functions for this machine are under the hood and not to visually obvious such as the improved camera and the more powerful processor making it a little bit more niffty on the graphics front for a better gaming/playing experience. However the best feature I think by far has to be the amiibo feature.
If like me you are relatively new to the whole ‘gaming’ scene, these little dudes really are fab for taking your game play to the next level.
Amiibo’s have different effects depending on each and every game and by touching your amiibo on the NFC touch point (these are found on the wii U and the new Nintendo 3ds) they may unlock new levels, weapons or options for the game, along with saving data to the amiibo to make it a completely unique sidekick for you!
Nintendo are currently selling the New Nintendo 3ds for the current price of £149.99 which is the same as the original 3ds version .. so in my opinion there is no contest hands down .. if you are in the market for a new console it should be the New 3ds every time … Although I fear I have probably just shot myself in the foot since my teens birthday is fast approaching and I am not sharing my new toy!
