Recently we were asked to review Reef 2 High Tide on DVD and we were looking forward to it. Having already got the first one on DVD and having fallen in love with the characters already we couldn’t wait to see what Pi and Cordelia would get up this time.
‘This sequel to the hit 2006 film heralds the return of courageous little fish ‘Pi’ who once again has to save his beloved reef. Troy, the nasty shark that Pi saw off in his last adventure has returned, and this time he has brought along his toothy shark friends for a ‘fish buffet’!
Pi now has his family – Cordelia (voiced by Busy Philips; Dawson’s Creek, I Don’t Know How She Does It) and son Junior – and to protect his loved ones, he decides to train his underwater friends in the martial art of ‘fish-fu’! Things don’t quite work out as planned, however, when new arrival Ronny turns out to be a spy, Cordelia is fish-napped and it’s down to Pi and Junior to rescue her…
Reef 2 also sees the return of the wise old sea turtle Nerissa, distinctively voiced by Rob Schneider (Top Cat: The Movie, Bedtime Stories)’
So how did we find it?
My first thoughts were that with it being a squeal that people may have had to watch the first film before this one to understand what was going off, although it would have made everything 100% clearer from the outset it would really not have been an issue if you hadn’t seen the first one.
Joshua and I loved the characters old and new and love the story line although Joshua (aged 2.5) did shout at the nasty Troy a couple of times, which was quite sweet, he certainly got engrossed!
We have now planned to watch both 1 and 2 one afternoon and have a movie afternoon as its perfect toddler (and Mummy) fun.
