Last week I had the pleasure of getting to view Studio Canal’s new film Room which features Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay in a heart stopping adaptation of Emma Donoghue’s novel.
From the first time I heard about this new film I was intrigued and also super excited to get to see it as I love a film that genuinely gets you to think about a plot or story line.
Having not read Emma Donoghue’s book I was going on the basis of the adverts and the youtube clip and I have to say being 8 months pregnant I was worried just how well my hormones might hold up with anything that is remotely emotional!
If you are like me and have not read the novel or even heard of this film before without telling you everything that happens (spoilers are just mean) the basic storyline is that of the Brie Larsons character who is abducted and held captive in her late teens who shows life being captive with her son in ‘Room’ the story goes on to show the planning behind getting her son ‘Jack’ out of ‘Room’ and subsequent life on the outside for them both.
In places this film had me almost stop breathing in anticipation and had me captive from the off!
I never expected a film to draw me in to this extent by the storyline and super talented acting! I am not going to lie there were tears shed and even though I had planned to write this post as soon as I had watched the film I have had to leave it a couple of days to process things … So its fair to say if you’re looking for something hard-hitting and yet still beautifully empowering this film is the one for you!
From sadness and confinement comes a really beautiful journey or mourning for what was to, learning that comes with the now and freedom.
The film is released January 15th in the UK.
Don’t forget I have a Room giveaway currently running and also Rooms Facebook page is hosting lots of competitions over the next week or so too.
