Although the weather is becoming more and more Winter like, last Saturday we decided to make the most of a rare Saturday off for Ollie and we set out for some fresh air and fish and chips in Skegness.
Now since Skegness is our nearest coast it seems strange that we have never visited it as a couple nor have we thought to take Joshua there. Bethany was lucky to have family on her Dad’s side nearby so visited several times a month when she was younger.
After an early start we made the way there easily and just in time for some breakfast!
We walked round the shops, we visited some fudge stalls, Joshua got some new trainers and we visited Chip Pan Alley for some delicious Fish and Chips and we even managed to squeeze in some time on the 2p machines in the arcades .. although we didn’t win.
The best bit of the day by far was sitting on that beach and watching Joshua dig in the sand and run round with the breeze in his hair.
It may of been the end of October but by goodness it was such a lovely day the weather was lovely and calm and there was not a single drop of rain.
There really is nothing like sitting on a beach while the wind skims your face and blows all those cares and worries away, all the while watching a toddlers face of pure joy with his bucket and spade and a whole empty beach to himself!
Days like these really are perfect to put life back into perspective and to reconnect as a family.
Now if only life didn’t get in the way quite so much maybe we would get more time to go to the beach! … if only
What a perfect day, such lovely pictures. We are going to tick off one of our autumn bucket list adventures this weekend which is dip our feet (in Welles or not) in the sea. I’m very lucky to live 2 minute walk from the coast. I love it whatever the weather xx #countrykids
Cara that is so lucky that you live so close by. Have an amazing time this weekend x
Every time I go to the beach I promise to go back more. We only managed one visit all half term but like you it was a lovely family day and the waves were huge as it was just after the storms making body boarding great fun. Looks like Joshua was very happy in his overalls with a bucket in hand. Think of this day when you feel in need of some family time and make sure you do it again! Thank you for sharing on Country Kids
Thanks Fiona, we really loved the quietness of it all to it really gave us a lovely time x
I love walking on beaches, whatever the season. You seem to fit in all the things I love doing. Hope you make it back soon. #CountryKids
thanks Cheryl I do hope we can get at least once more before the weather really turns x
Sounds like a gorgeous day 🙂 Can’t get enough of the beach, shame my favourite is about 2 hours away! Boo! x
our fave is about 2.5 hrs away but this one is just under 2. I do hope you get a visiting in too before teh weather changes x
What a fabulous post Jaime, looks like you had the best time especially on that beach. Seems like a great place to visit, those fish and chips must have tasted awesome 🙂
Thanks Charly it was beautiful and such a fantastic day x
Just love the photos on the beach (and of the wind farm) – a lovely place to spend time, what ever time of year it is 🙂 #CountryKids

I couldn’t agree more, essential family days out and so rejuvenating.
Nipping over from Country Kids.

Looks like you had a lovely day! Lovely photos, love the one of Joshua on the wall at the edge of the beach! x
awww thanks Charlotte, Joshua looks so cheeky sat there lol x
I love the beach in all weathers, and I always think fish and chips taste much better with a fresh wind on your face! Like you we are very near the sea but don’t get there enough – something I am inspired to change from reading #countrykids every week!
you are so right there really is nothing tastier than fish and chips at the sea side with that fresh air x
Oh this looks cold… but so much FUN! We haven’t been to the beach lately, we really should since it’s really near. Thanks for reminding me that even though it’s cold, you could still have some fun on the beach! 🙂
Dean you need to get yourself there!! 🙂
That looks like a great family day out. Really wished we lived nearer to the coast to be able to do this. And that fish & chips looks yummy!
it was super 🙂
What a lovely family day out 🙂 From #countrykids
thanks Wendy it sure was x
What a lovely day. I used to always go as a kid – have they still got the model village there? I have to say don’t think my kids have been. We used to go to Weston most weeks but don’t get the time as much anymore. Chips though – yum has to be done.
we didnt see the model village this time but i know which one you mean, it used to be fab 🙂 x
It’s mad that we can still go to the beach in October!!! lovely pictures looks like you all had a fab time x
its great isnt it honey x lol x
I really like the beach out of season, I wish we lived closer to one. I love the idea of eating fish and chips then going for a walk along the windy beach. Sounds like a nice break from it all x
its so lovely to do, i hope you get to a beach soon x
I love the beach, even though my toddler is a little wary of the water! But he does love the sand and I love the breeze on our faces. We’re lucky to live right next to the coastline in Dubai and now that the weather’s getting better, I miss no opportunity to get to the sea! Joshua is such a darling 🙂 #CountryKids
awww thank you honey for such a lovely comment. I would absolutely love to visit Dubai honey it looks like an amazing place to live
I really, really, miss Skegness this time of the year and can’t wait to move back next year. It is so lovely walking along the beach in the cold weather with no tourists to bother you! Looks like you had a fantastic day.
i didnt realise you were moving back honey!! how fantastic x
Never been to skegness but it sounds fab, sounds like u had a wonderful time, popping over from countrykids

Looks like a perfect family day!
#CountryKids
thanks honey it was xx
You’re so right Jaime that it puts a new perspective on everything when you have a calm, gorgeous day out with children. Love your photos.
Thanks Kriss its lovely isn’t it xx
Cor that fish & chips looks good *drools on keyboard*!
lol it was delicious 🙂
You can’t beat a day at the beach and it certainly looked like your toddler enjoyed it.
he had an amazing time, in fact we all did 🙂
I prefer beaches in winter, always seem a lot more interesting!
they really are aren’t they xx
We always used to go to the beach on New Years Day, and I loved it rain or shine! We don’t do the beach often in the summer because OH and Miss I can’t handle to much sun. However, it’s a definite bonus to get some good weather on an ‘unseasonal’ trip to the seaside when you have small people with you. You get the beach to yourself and you can stay as long as you like because everyone is happy!
Nicola what a really fantastic thing to do on New Years Day thats super!! xx
Beautiful photos!
thanks honey x
Ohh what a great day, I love the beach in the winter months. Mich x
thanks Mich, i think we are going to make more trips like this out of season x
I love Skegness. We take the kids when we visit my parents x
wow how fab, did you grow up in Skeg then Louise? x
awww your son is so cute!
awww thank you Sarah x
I agree, I love the beach whatever the weather! Fish & chips at the seaside sounds perfect
#countrykids
awww thanks honey its so fab isnt it x
The photos are lovely, it looks like a beautiful beach xx
thanks Wendy it was just so great to get out there for some fresh air x
Ohh it’s been years since I’ve been to Skeggy – it’s one of those places you almost have to go to when it’s cold – it’s like an unwritten law! I love the wind farm/windmills pics too!
It so is isn’t it Jo, in fact years ago it was pretty much the only time i ever went, parking fab and loads of space 🙂
I’m almost tempted to move back up north so H can experience these things – stuck down south every trip up north is for family these days, I don’t even get to the North York Moors anymore which makes me sad.
i do hope you manage to get a trip up soon Jo xx
the beach in the Autumn/winter is so great (especially when you have it all to yourself). Those wind turbines are cool.
you are so right its such a lovely place to visit x
Great photos of your day out on the beach. We’re surrounded by beaches where I live now in Long Island, NY so I try to find an excuse to visit one practically every week …it helps me keep sane 🙂
Now that sounds more than perfect to me! Xxxx
