With loving the garden and spending a lot of time in it through the summer when we were recently asked to take part in a competition to grow some sunflowers we jumped at the chance.
Last year Ollie and I decided to grow Sunflowers with the Children how ever we still never got round to it so it was now time to to give this gardening thing ago by using some swanky garden implements to plant our very tiny seeds along with having a tiny helper we set too to get this competition underway.
After planting out seeds in the pots I then had a brainwave (I know unusual for me) since the weather was hit and miss I decided to make them propagators and to put them in the Kitchen window in order to get the most from them.
It must have worked since within 72 hrs we had some big green shoots and 2 weeks later we had some corking baby sunflowers! They grew so much we had no choice but to take them outside and get them in the garden as they no longer fitted in out home made propagators.
So with the sun shining we titivated some of our other plants and refilled them and then with my trusty helper we set about transferring these little home grown plants into some outside pots!
So with our teeny tiny sunflowers now in their new home for the time being (we are hoping they are going to get bigger!) it now seems we have started the competition in earnest … although no one tell the toddler that his sunflower has already lost its head! ….. they grow back right?
If not I suppose this is where Mummy gives hers up .. or is it every man for himself?
