Both Ollie and I adore being by the sea and finding old-fashioned sweetie shops while we are there so when it comes to Christmas gift buying no matter if it is birthdays, anniversaries or Christmas both of us buy the other some old-fashioned sweeties and if we can get them Alphabet Letters are top of the list followed by fudge for my husband as he really can’t get enough of it and I am quite partial to double lollies at anytime of the year … although they seem to be one of the things I am craving in this pregnancy just recently!
Last year we managed to squeeze in some sweetie buying at Christmas markets but this year we are already struggling to find free time to visit anything that is upcoming in our area so we are going to have to make our purchases online and as subtle as my Husband thinks he is, the hinting towards the alphabet letters and fudge has already started *cough cough* hinting!
This year I might try something slightly different to ensure he gets more than just the fudge and letters and instead go a little off the wall with wedding favour boxes from A Quarter Of and buy a smaller quantity of the old favourites and instead make up some favour boxes with lots of other types of sweets too to give him more variety and then build a hamper out of them! nice portion sizes and something a little bit different from the paper bag full of one kind of sweet really might jazz it up a bit!
Although there other little gifts that we tend to buy as standard like the trusty NOW CD my husband buys for each birthday and Christmas I love the fact we have the sweetie tradition and this Christmas we even intend to bring Joshua in on the action too and get him some old favourites for his stocking, obviously not too many as Christmas added with lots of sugar could be a recipe for sick enduring disaster!
Do you have any traditions like our sweetie present one in your house?
