Last year The Oliver’s were small on numbers when Joshua and I headed out to pick our annual pumpkins on our own.
It was a lovely afternoon and one that I vowed would become a new Oliver tradition.
This year pumpkin picking at our local farm and shop, Maxeys opened on Saturday and we headed there for just after opening to pick the families autumn veg!
To make this outing even more perfect Joshua and I were not alone, in fact we were the Oliver 4 with Ollie and baby Jacob in tow too!
The weather although slightly overcast with spitting rain occasionally we were super lucky when we arrived to find the rain held off and the most amazing field of pumpkins I think I have ever seen!
Maxey’s have always been really fab at making events like this lots of fun and this weekend was no exception with face painting, tractor rides, an ice-cream van and even a giant bouncy castle in the shape of a pumpkin but first off was a walk through ‘the spooky forest’ a little nook of trees that runs parallel to the field that was packed with ghostly apparitions, skeletons and even some wicked witches!
Next on the to do list was the actual picking of the pumpkins and I have to be honest and say this was no mean feat with thousands to choose from!
There were massive pumpkins, tiny pumpkins and lots of middle-sized too!
It took Joshua a fair amount of time to select the 3 pumpkins that were going to come home with us and a nobbley one was nearly it!
However a beautifully round tiny one caught his eye on the way to the wheelbarrow so that one made it into the barrow to join the 2 medium-sized vegetables already in there.
Next it was time for a bounce on the pumpkin shaped bouncing castle before calling it a day and heading to pay.
We are so very lucky we have such a wonderful place right on our doorstep and for us it’s a perfect tradition to have, next year however instead of one little boy on the hunt for his perfect pumpkin there will in fact be 2 and I can’t wait.
